In the heart of the country and in the heart of horse country, the American Farrier’s Association maintains its headquarters at the National Horse Center on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Nearly one million equine enthusiasts visit the facility each year, and all are welcome to visit our offices and tour the working farrier shop.
OFFICE MANAGER
Rachel Heighton initially worked for the AFA as a college intern, returned as an Administrative Assistant, and rejoined us as Office Manager in January of 2008. Without a current executive director, Rachel works directly with the Executive Committee on the day to day running of the office, does the bookkeeping, and works closely with the Convention Coordinating Committee.
Rachel and her husband reside in Georgetown, KY with their daughter, Sophie, their two cats, and one dog.

Laura Harbour works part time for the AFA to assist with membership, convention, and certification.
An avid rider, Laura has 2 off the track standardbreds which she has retrained for their second careers as show horses. Her newest, Saxon, has recently been started under saddle and Laura looks forward to getting him into the show ring this summer.
